Cows in the Yard! Cows in the Yard!

We got a new motion sensor for the driveway. I installed it today. I also had to fix the fence in the back so the cows would stop coming into our yard. The first time I just hung it back up but I guess they tried it again and broke it loose. Piper noticed them while we were watching TV Friday evening. She was barking out the window and we kept telling her to shut up. We should have listened to her. She was trying to tell us something.

Prepping the mounting board for the sensor. Pre-drilling the screw holes.

Yeah, I know, I would never use the term "pre-drill". There are only two states in which a hole can possibly exist. Drilled and not drilled. I was drilling pilot holes for the screws, thank you very much.

The girls got to walk down the hill to the tree line with me. It was very exciting.

Paige wandered off as usual. She came back when I called her.

Paige found a stick to chew on. She was carrying it around too. Fun on the way back up.

The tree out by the fence broke in the last big wind. We got a little rain but not enough to make a difference.

Fixing the fence.

Belated Happy Birthday, Jim. Your cake looked really nice. So - how did you get the cows back out of your yard after Piper discovered them? Was it an adventure? Does your new driveway thingy work? Enquiring minds want to know!

The driveway thing didn't work. We're taking it back. It worked from about 50 feet but that is not acceptable. The maximum distance was rated at 900 ft and we had it at about 500. So, either we have some serious RF interference here or those things just suck. And to get cows to move, you raise your arms out to the sides and yell at them. You have to say "get along little doggie". Try it. It works.

The dogs didn't participate in the herding activity? Or are they the ones that raised their arms and yelled? Is that how Shelties herd? :-)

Actually this time the girls got the cows back in the pasture on their own. They just run at them barking and it does the trick. It was a couple of days earlier that we had to flap our arms and use cowboy terminology.
