Yesterday when we were at the Farmer's Market we visited a booth of master gardeners. They were from the Fayette county agricultural extension and gave us some tips and brochures about gardening. They also mentioned The Arboretum. It is the state botanical garden of Kentucky. It's operated by the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture and the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government. It was spectacular! We only saw about half of the gardens. We walked the area in the map on the right inside the fence. They have a lot of other walks and tours you can go on as well. We didn't get a close look at the vegetable garden because they were having a tour and it was full of people.
The tomato festival was underway when we got there. This was the tasting disply area. In the back of the second picture there were researchers from UK conducting an experiment. They were trying to determine if people actually prefer heirloom tomatoes to the hybrids. It was a blind taste test. We didn't participate, we had already eaten five or six samples from the displays.
Lisa liked the red crepe myrtle. The rose garden.
The water feature.
We identified the bird as a Goldfinch using our bird identifier book. It was eating the sunflower seeds.
Since mom and Kathy weren't there I had a bench picture with the terracotta man.

How often do they have the Farmer's Market? That place looks awesome. I'd love to make one of my trips on a weekend that they were having it. I wouldn't mind a trip to the Arboretum and another trip back to the Horse Park and and and.... Guess I should move, huh?!
That place looks very pretty. I would not mind going there for a next time I visit!!!
Yes Cathryn you should just move! I suspect the farmers market isn't there in the winter, not much to sell then. We have had the windows open for a week now, it's awesome! Marianne, we should go there and the Jiff/Smuckers plant too!
I put in for leave from 8-12 Sep and 6-10 Oct. With good luck I might get the weekends on either side as well. I'll keep you posted. Hooray for Smuckers! I think we need to go there in October.
That woulld be sooo much fun!!! The Jiff/Smucker Plant sounds pretty cool too!!! Mom still have not said wheather or not I was allowed to go in OCt or not. (I had to delete the other comment because it had to many mis-prints.
